The 2023 VoltaTrade and Investment Fair in Ho kicked off with a lively corporate fun game event, marking the sixth edition of the region's largest commercial gathering. Held at the football park of Ho Technical University, the Volta Fair Corporate Fun Games centered around the theme "Promoting Health and Wellness for AfCFTA." Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa, the Volta Regional Minister, graced the occasion as the Special Guest and Captain, while Mr. Ernest Danso, Chef De Mission for the 13th African Games, was the esteemed Guest of Honour.
This event brought together employees from both state and private corporate entities to engage in various competitions, spanning track and field events as well as board games. The spirit of the Founders Day holiday inspired participants to compete passionately, resulting in the triumph of various organizations across sectors such as state institutions, financial establishments, security services, real estate, and hospitality. These entities not only supported the fair but also sponsored the exhilarating fun games.
During the event's commencement, the Volta Regional Minister highlighted the region's potential for sports development. He pledged support from the Regional Administration to foster private sector investments in sports, with the aim of nurturing youth development and boosting tourism. Dr. Letsa showcased his sporting prowess by winning a table tennis tournament and participating in a penalty shootout for the public sector.
Mr. Danso expressed his admiration for the forward-thinking initiative of integrating sports into the Volta Fair, envisioning its evolution into a widely celebrated festival. Recognizing the Volta Region's growing reputation as a sports hub, he emphasized the need for stakeholders to focus on this promising aspect.
Mr. Dela Gadzanku, the Eastern, Volta, and Oti Regional Chairman of the Association of Ghana Industries, praised the significant turnout for the fun games. He underlined the critical role of talent and sports in the region's youth development and expressed gratitude for the support from the sporting community. He also emphasized the importance of modern sports facilities and how the fair could serve as a platform to attract investors to the region.
In addition to the dignitaries mentioned earlier, the event was graced by Mr. Divine Bosson, Chief Executive of Ho Municipality, and Mr. Flolu Etornam, Chief Executive of Afadjato South District. Mr. Etornam, who also serves as the dean of District Chief Executives in the Volta Region, actively participated in table tennis and engaged in board games such as checkers and playing cards.
An outdoor kitchen offered the popular traditional Ewe dish "Akple and anchovies gravy," alongside local beverages like aliha, sobolo, smoothies, and various desserts, which garnered considerable interest.
This initial gathering marks the beginning of a sequence of events designed to generate excitement and lay the groundwork for the upcoming 2023 Volta Fair, scheduled for November. The fair expects to attract a diverse array of local and global businesses and investors, offering a valuable opportunity for networking and cultivating collaborations.
