Ghana Passport Application Fees See Massive Hike

Effective today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has announced an upward adjustment in fees for passport services in Ghana. Here are the revised fees:
1. Standard Application (32 pages): Now priced at GH¢500.
2. Standard Application (48 pages): The fee has been raised to GH¢644.
3. Expedited Application (32 pages): The expedited service now costs GH¢700.
4. Expedited Application (48 pages): For the 48-page booklet, the fee is GH¢800.
This decision aligns with the 2023 fee regulations (L.I.2481). The Ministry aims to address losses incurred in passport booklet printing while ensuring financial viability. Minister Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey emphasized the need for realistic pricing given the economic constraints. Previously, the GH¢100 fee per passport did not cover production costs, resulting in a government subsidy of GH¢300 per passport. The adjustment reflects the ministry's commitment to providing essential services to citizens while maintaining financial sustainability.
"It is time for Ghanaians to pay realistic prices for passports they acquire to travel beginning next year. The current situation is not sustainable for the state to continue subsidizing passports," she stated.
