Braimah Isaac Kamoko, affectionately known as Bukom Banku, has officially announced his retirement from the world of boxing, choosing to pass the mantle to his children.
Kamoko's journey in the sport began with a remarkable feat, securing a bronze medal in the heavyweight category at the 1999 African Games in South Africa. His achievements laid the groundwork for a stellar professional career, marked by an impressive record of 29 victories in 30 bouts. Notably, his sole defeat came in a memorable clash against Bastie Samir in October 2017.
Speaking with candor in an interview with Okay FM, Bukom Banku candidly expressed his decision, stating, "I have matured, and it's also time to address some health concerns. I have no intention to continue fighting. Three of my offspring have embraced boxing, so I've bequeathed everything to them. I've packed away my gloves and shoes, all for the benefit of Abu Kamoko and Mustafa Kamoko. I've paved the way for their journey forward."
Looking ahead, Bukom Banku disclosed his plans to delve into comedy and event hosting. "I have concluded my boxing career and am venturing into comedy and organizing independent shows," he remarked.
Throughout his illustrious career, Bukom Banku engaged in numerous professional duels, with a vast majority held in Africa, particularly in Ghana. Notably, his triumph over Hungarian Ferenc Albert in the United Kingdom after three rounds in 2019 remains a memorable highlight.
Bukom Banku's decision to retire signifies a significant transition, marking the passing of the baton to the next generation, culminating in the pursuit of fresh endeavors while celebrating a legacy embraced by his children.
